Hi and welcome to the Attic, I'm Frankenberry of said Blog Title and I write of just my everyday here, sometimes funny, sometimes heartfelt, sometimes angry, sometimes funny again because, well, who don't like funny, thoughts on getting older and sometimes stuff that's just kinda shit. I pen and sing the occasional parody tune and other songs, sometimes I even get a little bit poetic or short story-etic or something like that. Wouldn't want you step on them or anything … 'cause then I might just have to throw you down the stairs … damned humans.
Now in January of last year I did a version of Melanie’s “What Have They Done To My Song” from back in 1970 with “Look What They’ve Done To Our Trump” which a good friend of mine commented at the time that she thought was the best parody tune I had done yet which was high praise because one: I had done a ton at that point and was still counting ’em and two: I didn’t really think she liked any of my parody tunes.
Who knew?
But hers is an opinion I value, still do and dearly so, so I took that, as I said, as high praise.
Well, things have changed dramatically since then, as we all know, and not for the better and I thought I’d revisit the song then and update the lyrics and do some liberal “borrowing” from the first one, freakin’ self plagiarist that I am!

Originally a response to Ron DeSantis and his Ron dreamy land baron remembrances and his attempts at rewriting history, but, as the always obvious continues to become even more always obvious now, there is this and example of how honest, truthful and critical thought can fade given the right condemnation and empowered white grievance.

Earlier this week there was an opinion piece at the Washington Post (yes, I still hold onto my subscription, knee bending, ring kissing, weak spined weasel Jeff Bezos notwithstanding as this section of the paper still has actual opinions and hasn’t been forced to acquiesce just yet) that asked the question of James Comer, Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, why he hadn’t sought to investigate the corruption of Trump like he tried to do so fruitlessly and embarrassingly with Joe Biden for so long and so hard?
“The Biden Crime Syndicate” he extolled at the time with no hint of irony or projection or proof.
The piece was presaged on the notion that he would have a MUCH stronger case now to make for actual corruption charges of the nation’s highest office, just with Trump instead.
Well, of course, we all know the answer to that.
Crickets … (sorry, my dear Cricket the cat, don’t mean to drag you into the political fray by cliche sound effect association).
A new thing here as to our current dire times filled with obviousness and anger, anger mostly fueled by said obviousness and with some older Trump parody tunes that still work at the end for some “umph”

Spent a good portion of the weekend, after some poetry, most of it bad poetry (which is sometimes the best poetry) working on a post where I intended to include a few of my Trump parody tunes, older ones that still work for the moment (as I tinker some new things that no one is waiting on but will at least give me momentary peace when they come) amid the current fascist clusterfuck that we find ourselves in, but it just wasn’t working for me. It may still, with a bit more attention, but for right now it was a no go, I mean I have standards to keep unlike this current whose only standard is to lie to us even more vociferously on a daily basis than the first time around and that is quite an accomplishment, it seriously is, as that former lie-fest was award worthy shit, but now it’s almost something you could commend simply for the sheer audacity of it, I mean there isn’t even a care this time to couch anything that could even remotely be considered close to fact, no, this time there is an almost gleeful and obvious disregard for anything even resembling a truthful narrative, which the first administration at least tried to fake and cover (though there were a few adults around then so …)
No this is full bore, in your mug, this is what we got now deal with it state news propaganda with a pretty face, though hers gets less pretty by the day. You’re witnessing, in real time a face spouting falsehoods and dangerous lies getting more cartoonish and ugly by the moment. You can almost see the devil she’s decided to embrace peering out through what surely once were innocent and hopeful eyes. It is some pretty strong Kool-Aid being drunk there at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
But lets be clear about one thing. There is a lot of talk being bandied about, about who is or who is not a true American or true patriot depending on whether or not you support this despot in waiting. If you do, if you still support him even after what you have seen the only one being un-American is YOU. YOU are supporting the destruction of democracy, you know, that thing you grew up with and were taught of before you were now told that that wasn’t really quite right, and the building instead of exactly what our democracy was intended to escape and protect us from. You are supporting a budding, inhuman dictatorship, period. You have NO argument to make otherwise.
That’s it. You can hem and haw and “ummm, but”, you can justify and rationalize, you can cherry pick stances, you can split rhetorical hairs or find some semantic that will allow you to escape your support of a dictatorship and the loss of freedom and liberty that will come from it when project 2025 goes into full effect but you can’t escape it no matter how you might try to word around and distance yourself from it. And this has been said over and over and over, it’s not like I’m treading any new ground here.
YOU ARE COMPLICIT in all the wrongs that are still to come and there will be many and YOU WILL OWN THEM. YOU in that complicity. You own Stephen Miller, that creepy neo-nazi weasel who fashions himself in SS uniforms in the mirror at home. You own Heil Homan, that troll who lives under a bridge in a really dark Grimm Tale and looks like he wants to eat your children. You own Margie Q Greene and her gloried ignorance. You own JD Vance and his smooth, condescending faux intelligence “free speech” only if it’s our speech bullshit. You own Pete Hegseth and his misogynistic, white supremacy. You own Nancy Mace, shit, where to even start there. You own Karoline Leavitt and her daily barrage of smiling, smirking lies. You own RFK Jr and his anti-science, anti-medicine “I’m not a doctor but I play one on TV and in cabinet meetings”. You own the references to Hitler, referenced with pride. You own Kristi Noem, and no one wants that, tight cute Cosplay ICE outfits notwithstanding. You own Linda McMahon and her artificial intelligence steak sauce. You own Brendan “State News Only” Carr, you own the whole lot and all that have acquiesced and paid their protection money. That feeling you have right now that you are covered with your fealty, your allegiance, that joy you have in this moment, most probably just a one that has finally allowed you thumb your nose at the other side and feel superior, however childish and petty and juvenile that is? It will come for you too. You will find, eventually, that the liberties you thought you had earned with your oaths and obeisance will also be taken.
No, we need to stand and brace ourselves. Make noise. A lot of noise.

2015 – Musical “Hamilton” starring Lin-Manuel Miranda and Anthony Ramos premieres at The Public Theater in Lower Manhattan. Ok, got it, but musicals, what the fuck is it with these musicals!?
2017 – Donald Trump is inaugurated as the 45th President of the United States of America and Mike Pence as the 48th Vice President. We go into an orange decline.
2021 – Dan Campbell is named head coach of the Detroit Lions … Ok, yeah, cool for you Dan (aside … hey, who is editing this borrowed shit?!)
2021 – Joe Biden is inaugurated as the 46th President of the United States of America, championing the regular guy and gal and Kamala Harris becomes the first female or black or south Asian Vice President while white America loses their shit.
Previous office holder, Donald Trump, is first outgoing president to refuse to attend the inauguration of his successor since 1869 while stomping his feet and crying “Mommy!!” that he was a victim of a rigged election and system.
This regular Joe keeps Democracy and the economy and all semblance of what is right alive and tries to champion all of the other regular Joe’s … the GOP would have none of it while claiming otherwise.
2025 – Donald Trump is inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States of America along with J.D. Vance as Vice President after winning a “mandate” to usher in a new oligarchy, and autocracy, and kleptocracy and numerous other “ocracy’s” that do not start with “Dem” however much winning the election by only 1.5 points can be considered a “mandate.”. White supremacists rejoice.
2025 – Elon Musk, a former illegal immigrant becomes King of the World even more so in his own mind but also in reality as money is all that matters anymore while responding to any and all criticism like a 12 year old boy.

Now in the process of my posting these tunes of mine, words well worked in anger at the pained obvious, well wrought obvious, words red flagged in an attempt at a head’s up, “Do you see?” things that are my stand up I waver … I flit between serious dread and that the lesser dread that seems just kinda silly, but still dread. I mean it couldn’t be right? This is just another election with a possible reset just another four years off right? in case we get things wrong, a future time to possibly mend mistakes right?
But I know that that is not the case, this is no regular election and there are no Pollyanna thoughts of how this has always worked continuing in a still existent democratic future.
My problem with Trumpers is, though I don’t fault you your opinions, well, Ok, I do, as they ain’t mine and i could never be that easily susceptible to a con, but that they are too often misinformed, wholly misinformed and I don’t understand your need to “own” the other side like it is some sort of childish game, to grab the mantle of Orange grievance like it is your own, as if he were a guy who actually lived a life with you.
He hasn’t, never has, lived that life, he has never been that guy, nor is he heaven messiah sent as he glories to be, he IS the elite he warns you of. You spend so much time and glee on owning the other side that you miss the bigger picture. You become cult and you won’t be able to break away until it’s too late, and there will be a time where that comes.

From Trump promising more and more and more to now his pretty god-sent spokesleader Mike Johnsen “Such a nice looking guy, just that little beautiful face with the glasses” saying he looks forward to working with a GOP Senate at prioritizing the reauthorization of Trump’s tax law. Oh, Johnson also feels he and his team team could quickly pass legislation to address concerns at the border even though those concerns were already addressed in a bi-partisan way until the Orange one scuttled those plans … “The border is huge!!!! Must come up with a hard solution now!!! It is of the most hugest of hugely huge importance!!! We have and agreement Sir, finally with lots of concessions on their part, you would be hugely happy!!! Fantatstic!!! but kill it … need to campaign on how we can’t get anything done down at the border and how hugely huge it is!!!”

Well, T-Minus 5 days now until the most consequential election in this nation’s history.
If the if the Orange Devil prevails you will soon discover that conservatives will take full advantage of no longer being persecuted in their beliefs of NOT being able to persecute you in yours and dictate how you live but instead will now work to force you into compliance.
Say goodbye to personal and religious liberties if they don’t align with Great Leader and “The Followers” and, with the majority of the nation’s highest court on the payroll, good luck in trying to fight any of the invasions.
Oh, and hope to god that you are white and straight (and preferably, if possible, male)

Not much of a post here, no story, just another political parody in my long list of such, this one about what is at stake in this coming election.
Will it be continued democracy or a creeping fascism?
Shame on you GOP for your lack of will and your rubber backbones to not stand up for the former and just accept the latter instead now as a matter of course, as if this were just the flow of new history, the CPAC darling Jack Posobiec highlighting such in his future jackboot “Democracy needs to die” inspirational rant blueprinting all that is wrong with today’s GOP while of course somehow laying the blame of this wish at the feet of Dems and their destruction of OUR country.
“They say democracy, but they mean authoritarianism, and they know it,” he said with a straight projection face. But we know who the real authoritarian wannabe’s are now don’t we Jack?
So, screw you Jack whoever you are by the way. I mean, should I know you? Are you a thing?

Back in January I visited Melanie’s “What Have They Done To My Song” for another of my parodies, I’ve been working this angle for going on 7 years now with quite a lot of tunes, a boatload, and blah blah blah Steve, yes, your editorials in song as blah blah blah, no one is going to read any straight up editorial blah blah blah but if you put them to tune blah blah blah … you’ve told us.
But that is what it is and what I do though, I gotta say, in my own defense, they are all pretty toe tap worthy, biting and spot on and just darned good in that biting and spot on and toe tappingness.
Anyway, visited Melanie again and her “Brand New Key” now, a tune reminded the other day out of the corner of my ear at work from the ‘Magic’ station playing at my boss’s desk.
