Frankenberry's Attic

Merril at dVerse Poets prompted us earlier this week with Prosery Monday.

Prosery, like the Quadrille is, as Merril notes, a dVerse form. Where the Quadrille is a 44 word poem with a single word to include, Prosery is 144 words of prose with a line from a poem to include.

In this case the line is “I am the creature who smells your darkest thoughts” From Arthur Sze and his poem “Jaguar Song” which is here.

Rapt Attention

It’s sort of like reading minds but worse. That’s what you were thinking to ask right? No worries, just nod.

Now, reading minds is too often portrayed in the simplest of terms, where you can read simple thoughts of simple people giving you whatever you seek, with them unawares but, in reality? It’s overwhelming and debilitating, like a universe of stars suddenly converging to one hot, bright stabbing point in your mind then expanding to universe again, stabbing outwards. Like to see? No? Ok.  

But reading sins, well that’s sooooo much worse because what was overwhelming of other’s thoughts instead is overwhelming WITH deed.

Oh, I’m sorry, yes, introductions. I am the creature who smells your darkest thoughts, reads them and helps you put them to that deed.

So, I smell you have a list? You’re not nodding “No” are you?

(tsk) That’s no fun.
