Earlier this week at dVerse Poets there was a poetics prompt from Sanaa that offered up a few paintings of John Atkinson Grimshaw to choose from for inspiration.
I thought with this that I’d keep with a bit of a theme that came about with a couple of other responses of mine to recent poetics prompts also with paintings for inspiration.
One from Marc Chagall, to which I responded with “The Girl at the Fair” for his painting “La promenade (The Promenade)” and one from Henri Rousseau and my response of “The Girl with the Umbrella” for his painting La Promenade – “La Promenade dans la Foret (The Walk in the Forest)“.
Here, of the painting choices from Sanaa for John Atkinson Grimshaw, I went with Silver Moonlight (1886)

The Girl with the Basket of Moon
She practiced playful solitude to use at parties
of the well encumbered
to be unencumbered of expectation
with cheeky disdain
carrying it well honed
in her basket
wished
with the scents of
Far East candles,
Damask Roses,
fresh French baguettes in the morning and a winsome yawn,
African violets,
Swiss chocolates
that
dripped lips in the middle
dipped
with liquor that made her flush
blush
at white gloves presented that said
“Why thank you, I’d be delighted to”
under the softest of Moon’s silver
new wet haze
reflecting in warm puddles
along cobblestone thoughts
into her basket
leading her away
