Oh, to the Stars … (poem)

The latest Quadrille prompt at dVerse Poets comes from Kim, the Quadrille being the 44 word dVerse specialty with a word to include.

The word this prompt?

“Rumpus”

(yes, I still look up and dream)

//////////////////////////////////////////

Oh, to the Stars …

They spark blinkled star sprinkled

dust

down

tinkled tickled

keys

in silent

song

.

those sparks

to wrinkled gaze

those notes

in twinkled ears

still

after all these years

.

such a racket

such a rumpus

Oh, if only to hear

once

can you join us?

  1. Just spent an hour outside looking up at the stars and came in to find this

Excellent! A surprise placement for rumpus.

Now write something about a rump roast.

  3. This is a very twinkly quadrille, Stephen, and I love all the internal and end rhymes, and the way the gentle twinkling becomes a racket and a rumpus.

  5. I really like the way your lines shimmer, Stephen. ✨ “They spark blinkled star sprinkled / dust” feels so playful yet wistful to me, and that closing invitation makes the whole piece echo like a song drifting into silence.
